New Moon in Cancer

It always makes me happy when a New Moon comes at the beginning of a sign. We’re very lucky this year because the Sun entered Cancer on the 21st and our New Moon is on the 23rd! Everything just seems to sync up so much better.

I believe that if I could pick the totem animal for Cancer, I would choose the elephant. She is a protective and nurturing mother, a devoted auntie, and a master of memory. I’m going to do a short series on power animals of the signs soon and you’ll see the elephant featured there. She is also a creature that stays with her tribe. If there’s a master of the zodiac at creating and sustaining a tribe, it’s Cancer.

Spend some time at this New Moon thinking about your tribe. It may be your family, but it may not. Do you belong to more than one tribe? Do they overlap? Which really owns your heart?

  • How can you strengthen your tribal bonds?
  • Are there ways you can protect and nurture members of your tribe who may be in distress?
  • Where can you lend an ear to those who need your empathy or sympathy?

The Moon’s transit through Cancer has its ups and downs, but is that anything new for Cancer? Best days for the Moon through this transit ~ other than the New Moon tonight ~ is the afternoon of the 24th when she trines her partner-planet Neptune. This is an especially auspicious time for those who are born in the third deacon of Cancer (20-29.59°) since you already have an affinity for Neptune. Another excellent time is the midnight hour of June 24/25th when Moon in Cancer sextiles Venus in Taurus ~ an opportunity to bring forth something truly loving and beautiful.

I’ve written quite a bit about Cancer during the years and wanted to share some of the older articles with you. Some are new, some are older, and they’re in no particular order.

New Moon in Cancer ~ Dream a Little Dream I never really connected with Diana as the goddess of the Moon. She was too aggressive, a bit too masculine (in astrological terms) to represent the feminine face of the moon. Where was the romance implied by moonlight? Didn’t she ever sleep, perchance to dream? She didn’t have a thing to do with either. For years I … Continue reading New Moon in Cancer ~ Dream a Little Dream

New Moon in Cancer ~ The Great Mother How might your life have been different, if, deep within, you carried an image of the Great Mother? Astrological Picture Book ~ The Chariot as Cancer, The Crab I wasn’t the brightest of students back in the early 90’s. I could not figure out for the life of me what the tarot’s Chariot card had to do with the zodiac sign of Cancer. The chariot looked sort of  like a crab with those two sphinxes looking a little like claws. The Music of Cancer ~ Moon, Mother, Memories, and Home We see astrological symbolism all around us everyday. Have you ever been driving, listening to the radio, and heard a song that was so emotionally … Continue reading The Music of Cancer ~ Moon, Mother, Memories, and Home
