Leo and the Strength Card

thunder bolts and hearts ~ sometimes all at once

Leo is a fixed fire sign ~ so when push comes to shove, you don’t want to push the lion too hard unless you’re a certified lion tamer. Zodiac Leos aren’t usually as scary as their jungle cousins, but there’s still a good chance that you’ll feel the heat when they roar. Chances are just as good that they’ll love you to death first. What a way to go!

There are so many amazing keywords associated with Leo ~ courage, dignity, love, generosity, creativity, leadership, determination, integrity, benevolence. These are qualities that make Leo bigger than life and add star quality to those who possess them.

Living with royalty isn’t always easy, though, and there are plenty of less inviting keywords that have grabbed Leo by the mane ~ bossy, egomaniacal, narcissistic, vain, demanding, self-righteous.

Leo is not a wimpy sign, so wherever you find Leo in your chart you are a force to be reckoned with. You’ll require a lot of loyalty in this part of your life and may lay down a few Leo laws about how to be treated. Being treated like anything less than royalty here can have a devastating effect on your self-esteem. That stands to reason since Leo is ruled by the Sun, which hands out self-esteem badges. Some of the best advice I ever heard for building self-esteem was “Every day when you wake up, decide whether you’re a servant or a queen.” Even exiled, queens rarely lose their self-esteem. They know who they are.

Leo has a fair amount of vanity, with the Pluto in Leo generation holding the title of “The Me Generation.” Now we’re more accustomed to hearing, “It isn’t always about you.” For the royal you, wherever Leo holds court in your chart, remember that the best-loved kings and queens (and leaders of any kind) are those who love their subjects and always make sure they feel the love through kind acts, gracious leadership, and generosity of spirit. That’s how loyalty is won, and that’s something to be proud of.

Associated with the Strength card of the tarot, Leo speaks of gentle fortitude rather than brute force. Wherever you find Leo in your chart, you will probably find that works best for you, too. If it doesn’t, you may have to go ahead and yawp the ears off of inattentive subjects ~ in case they’ve missed your more subtle “suggestions.” Just keep in mind that if you do this, you may be deposed. Many a ruthless royal has had their head on the chopping block.

The courage demanded of us when we face impossible tests is a show of our own fortitude. Can we go the distance while retaining our dignity, all the while not losing sight that there are others involved who are trying to hold onto their self-esteem as much as we are? It’s not easy being King.

  2. Physical courage is courage in the face of physical pain hardship death or threat of death while moral courage is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition shame scandal or discouragement……Ifeel that isthe quality of both our mindand spirit that enablesus to face those difficult dangerous painful times inourlives in spite of fear. I also believe thatto have the courage of ones convictions to act in accordance with ones beliefs especially in spite of criticism. ….. It is curious–curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare. Mark Twain …..
