Celebrities ~ Leo’s Other Royalty

Why are we so utterly fascinated with stars ~ movie stars, athletes, politicians, stars who do nothing, and even scientists who are stars?

Are we too much like Icarus, wanting to fly so close to the Sun that we crash and burn when our idols do?

We fall madly, deeply in love with them and then join together in a mob mentality when our heroes become all too human (Tiger Woods, Mel Gibson, John Edwards). We rubber-neck their fall like a 20 car pile-up on the freeway. We simply cannot turn away.

Soon there’s another celebrity to fill the void and we’re glued to the movie screens and tv’s, arenas and ballparks until someone with greater star quality comes along.

Have you ever been obsessed with a celebrity? How long did it last?

If you had the chance to spend a day with them, would you do it? Or would you rather hold on to the fantasy?

Were you ever a local celebrity? How did it feel?

  1. LOL..Never been one to think that celebrities are people to idolize. I respect celebrities like Paul Newman who use their fame to help others. I also think Oprah does a lot of good also, and she is one that I think it would be fun to meet as she seems just like us.

I have always felt that everyone is somebody, and most celebrities are just people who want attention any way they can get it. Often abuse their power or fame like Tiger Woods and John Edwards.

Wonder what gets into people who idolize and follow people they don’t know and probably never will. And why try to be like them or hang on their every word. Makes no sense at all to me. Sometimes they are famous, just by the luck of the draw…like Paris Hilton! LOL

I was thinking about Leo’s today because there are a few Leo birthdays in my circle and laughed at one of them who announced on her page the day before her birthday that everyone better wish her a Happy Birthday…and then thought…hey my 60th came and went and most people didn’t take notice. Guess I should take a hint from the Leo and let them know what is expected of them. LOL

    1. LOL! I know what you mean. I used to work with a young girl who insisted that we call her Princess. She would hand out a list of gifts she wanted at Christmas and her birthday! That was in my pre-astrology days, so I don’t know if she was a Leo or not, but she was absolutely adorable. She was charming enough to pull it off and not get pummelled.

  2. I had a crush on George Harrison. I used to fantasize that i’d bump into him on the street and say hello. Sadly he died before it happened.

  3. When I was young … seriously, starting about age 8 or 9 … I was obsessed with Errol Flynn. Robin Hood, The Sea Hawk, Captain Blood–I still love those movies, although now I attribute the obsessive part to my Venus in Scorpio *grins*

But here’s a Leo kind of game we made up one evening and had a lot of fun with: Plan the perfect celebrity date by listing the person you’d like to have dinner with, the perfect car, and the location. My daughter scored a hit with Owen Wilson in a pickup truck to a local bar; I preferred Fred Astaire in a Rolls to the Savoy Grill!

  4. Those are both priceless, Mary Pat. I could go for both of them, except substitute Antonio Banderas or Denzel Washington in that pickup truck. Antonio works in the Rolls, too. (I’m a fan.) Someone on a forum asked how we would picture the different signs. This was my response.

Aries : Antonio Banderas at the grill
Taurus: Antonio Banderas in the garden
Gemini: Antonio Banderas reading the paper
Cancer : Antonio Banderas taking me home to meet mom
Leo : Antonio Banderas accepting an academy award
Virgo: Antonio Banderas organizing my files
Libra : Antonio Banderas whispering sweet nothings in my ear
Scorpio: Antonio Banderas walking out of a steam room (this is the Rated G version)
Sagittarius : Antonio Banderas as Zorro
Capricorn: Antonio Banderas ordering his entourage around
Aquarius : Antonio Banderas leading the revolution
    Pisces: Antonio Banderas serenading me

  5. Hi there,
just popping by to say thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog.

Ha ha!! Love your list for the diffferent signs – I would just substitute Jason Statham.
And thanks – I now have a lovely picture, in my head, of him ‘organising my files’.
Ooer.. is that a weird, new euphemism? 🙂
