How does a sign show up in our everyday lives? In so many ways that we tend to overlook them. We find them in our clothing, our gardens, on our table, in the books we read, and all the little choices we make daily. Here are a few of the symbols of Gemini. 

Motto: I Think 

Hmmm…….. I’ve…been…thinking… It seems we’re always thinking, thinking, thinking. Or we’re talking, and then ~ when someone else is talking ~ we’re thinking about what to say or do next.  When we set about to “quiet the mind,” we’re deliberately trying to get Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, to shut up for a while. 

It is an ancient tenet of many religions and belief systems that our thoughts and words have complete dominion over the physical plane: 

• In Buddhism, three branches of the Noble Eightfold Path are Mercurial in nature: right mindfulness, right concentration, and right speech.
• The first words from the Dhammapada are We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world.
• Christianity defines “the word” as God: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

The theory behind these ideologies is basically the same and has come to be touted as “The Secret,” which really isn’t a secret at all. Who hasn’t had their thoughts become real? If you think it and speak it, it just seems to happen. It’s one of the reasons writers and artists can be hesitant to speak about their work. They don’t want to jinx it.

They’re all Gemini activities working under Mercury’s influence. It’s hard to get through a single day without Gemini being in overload mode, even if you’re a recluse. Oh, and the landline phone ~ that’s Gemini. Your cell phone, being wireless, belongs to Aquarius and Uranus. 

Element:  

The element of air is associated with all things mental and social. It is our quest for information and our subsequent assimilation and expression of all we have learned. If you need to be in the know, enjoy gossip, thinking up new ways of doing things, or want a lot of social interaction and lots of relationships of various kinds, you have a strong affinity with the element of air. It’s all about logical connections, but not necessarily emotional ones ~ those belong to the water element. 

Planet: Mercury 

He was a cunning, deceitful, and an utterly delightful thief ~ a trickster ~ swift of foot and swifter of tongue. 

He was given rulership of the crossroads, merchants, and travelers. As the messenger of the gods, he accompanied many of the Olympians on their journeys, as well as acting as an escort to and from the underworld. He is always associated with eternal youth, fluidity, curiosity, and the confusion that accompanies new beginnings. 

Mercury defines how we gather information, how we think, and ultimately, how we use that information to express our ideas and opinions about what we have learned. He is our mind, our choices, and our connections. 

Color: 

Yellow, the color of communication, is cheery, sociable, creative, and joyous. Notice how yellow is used in marketing, and is predominant in fast food marketing. It indicates speed, “Eat and get out!” McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King all use the color in their logos and advertising. 

Anatomy: 

Hands, arms, shoulders.  Feeling a little bit twitchy? That’s Mercury and the nervous system. Feeling really anxious to the point of losing it? That’s probably Uranus, the super twitch. Rings, bracelets, gloves, and nail polish are all products that Gemini uses to adorn us.

Twins and Pairs

Anything that comes in a set of two is related to Gemini ~ a pair of candlesticks, salt and pepper shakers, bookends. Twins are obviously significant. We often hear about the good twin/bad twin scenario or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Romulus and Remus, Castor and Pollux ~ these are the most famous of twins, one mortal and one immortal, and represent the two states of mankind ~ the physical body and the eternal soul.

Metal:  

Mercury, also known as quicksilver, is a silvery fluid metal. It’s all around us in the form of thermometers, barometers, amalgam dental fillings, and in small amounts in flourescent light bulbs. The new lightbulbs will require special care with recycling and disposal because Mercury is toxic.
