Full Moon in Sagittarius ~ The Archer Moon

The Galactic Center, Sagittarius A

At the very center of the Milky Way is the strongest gravitational pull in the galaxy. Known as Sagittarius A, this area is “the galactic center.” It is a game of twists and turns, a never-ending pull that, miraculously, allows us to maintain our balance instead of spinning out of control. Just as a dancer spots a point in the distance that allows her to gain momentum, that kind of focus is what is required of you from The Archer. She knows her mark and always hits her target.

From Gemini, we learn that we have to think. Sagittarius asks a very simple question, “About what?” The Archer’s quest is to seek out that “what” ~ searching for it in a myriad of forms, until she comes to recognize and understand it. She then learns, through trial and error, how to hold fast to it.

A Full Moon always asks us to know what we want and to bring our desires into balance so we can attain it. Through the cycle of Moons, we are shown the many costumes worn by the illusionists who would steal our hearts and the many truths that keep us on our course.

At the very center of your natal chart is a big empty circle. If you’ve ever wondered where the real you is in your chart, that’s it. It’s up to you to fill the circle with all the elements available from around the wheel. Everything you need is there. The center ~ that’s your mark, what you’re aiming for. The rest is a matter of creativity. A Full Moon asks that you find your balance and set your sight. Your target ~ the creation and manifestation of the real you ~ is within range.

How the Moon Speaks to Us

A while back I wrote a post about how I had always had trouble associating the Moon with Diana and identified more with Selene as her celestial manifestation. I don’t think Diana received that well. I’m taking all of this personally, I know, but a message… is a message…is a message. Who is The Archer in our pantheon of Goddesses? Diana ~ also known as Artemis. This goddess overtook the Titan, Selene, as the Goddess of the Moon and she is defending her territory.

Karen at Ravenesque tells us about the role of the asteroid Artemis during this particular Sagittarius Full Moon:

Artemis turns retrograde at 0 degrees Capricorn, adding to the competitive nature of the cycle but also bringing a protective twist to your emotions as she withdraws and focuses on the job at hand – protecting what is rightfully yours.

Perhaps our lady Diana (Artemis) is, indeed, watching out for what is rightfully hers by reminding us through the naming of this Full Moon in Sagittarius that she is The Archer, and this territory, this lunar region,  is unquestionably hers. And ~ as of today ~I wholeheartedly agree. If Selene gives me a restless night ~ well, I’ll cross that bridge in the morning.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the contest. What a fabulous group of names you came up with! Each carries a message and gives us plenty of food for thought.

    1. You bet, Karen. Artemis was is engaging in a little serendipity. That Luna ~ she’s a rascal!

  1. Wow! Didn’t expect Archer Moon to be picked. How very cool.
    Thanks everyone!

    1. Very cool, Anne. I sent you an email early yesterday. Check your spam for something from auntiemoonmail. Congratulations!

  2. I love the naming of Hina the Moon … Archer. Our tiny home now on an island where clouds hide that Archer, still feels that focus-ed center and I sense the protection you write about … rightfully mine.

Nice to check in with you Auntie Moon.

    1. Hello, Mokihana! I’m glad you found some time to check in while you’re on the move. The Full Moon here was huge, quite reminiscent of the Moon I wrote about. I’m sorry you weren’t able to see her, but maybe in your next spot you’ll be able to catch her in high beam mode.
