The New Moon in Capricorn arrives on January 18th, the last stronghold we have before the 5-planet line-up gathers in Aquarius on January 23rd. Because of Pluto’s transit of Aquarius, this line-up will shake the foundation of our world. Here’s the line-up on the 23rd:
A bowl configuration places all the planets in one half of the chart. The lead planet of the bowl is Mars, spirited yet harnessed in the last degree of Capricorn. He’ll enter Aquarius in the wee morning hours of the 23r. The Sun, Pluto, Mercury, and Venus follow Mars as the bowl turns clockwise. This group is deeply personal.
The Moon, Saturn, and Neptune span 26-29 degrees of Pisces. They are in a supportive relationship with the Aquarius planets. Pisces is the oil that keeps the gears spinning smoothly. Uranus is in an odd position. At the end of Taurus, he is looking sideways at the Aquarius planets. He’s rather peeved. Aquarius is his domain, after all. What are they doing in his house? Wrecking it? Renovating? Is there a difference?
Yet, he’s okay with the trio in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer. It’s like being peeved with your family and seeking refuge with your friends. It helps, but it doesn’t really solve the problem.
A way to think of this line-up in Aquarius is “the sky cracking open.” It won’t be fast. Instead, it will be like the slow turning of a gear that we will encounter only once in our lifetime. The sky will crack and, while our daily focus can change considerably during the coming weeks, the world will change forever as Pluto’s gears slowly, slowly turn the wheel of history.
Capricorn holds us steady, it’s our anchor. It teaches structure and long-term commitment, and helps us build a legacy. This New Moon on the 18th needs our full attention. It’s the New Moon to set intentions regarding priorities, to anchor them in the body, and to engage some symbolism that can help us embrace this moment and endure.
Start thinking about your intentions now. We are entering the Balsamic phase today, the 14th. This is the time for releasing what doesn’t serve us and resting before a new cycle. The Sun enters Aquarius on the 19th, so we will spend this Capricorn lunation under that cracking Aquarius sky. Sagittarius told us to widen our horizons, Capricorn tells us to secure what we’ve gained. The gears are turning. Use these last four days of the current Sagittarius lunation to consider the things that the Capricorn lunation will help us secure as we start our journey through Aquarius.
