New Moon in Sagittarius and a Hints to Santa New Moon Ritual

A quote that always comes to mind when I think of Sagittarius is “not all those who wander are lost.” I have a bracelet with that inscription and I wear it when I’m in the “between” places—when I’m neither here nor there, and I’m okay with it. Sometimes we’re not okay with the between places, but that’s another story.

Coming so near the end of the year in 2017, the New Moon in Sagittarius can have us looking around the zodiacal corner at what 2018 might have in store for us. And then Sagittarius asks us an important question:

“Well…what do you want? What are you seeking?”

Everyone’s answer is different, of course, but I’d bet that wherever Sagittarius is in your chart the answer would include “freedom.” Maybe not freedom from, but freedom within—the ability to come and go easily and joyfully, without restriction or limits. The planet associated with Sagittarius, Jupiter, knows no bounds. He’s free-ranging, over the top, and always looking for just a little bit more. It’s in stark contrast to Saturn, the planet associated with Capricorn.

Guide for Capricorn 2017-2018 available soon.

Capricorn is on the heels of the New Moon in Sagittarius this year. Maybe we can use Sagittarius to stay upbeat when we begin to feel those Saturnian walls closing in. As though it was some kind of major chess move, Saturn leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn on the 19th, the day after the New Moon and only two days before the Sun enters Capricorn. (Is this room getting smaller?)

In some ways, we can use this late arriving, but jolly New Moon as an emotional arrow to carry optimism, hope, and faith into the the coming New Year. Norman Vincent Peale said, “Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you land among the stars.” I love that.

A New Moon Ritual for Sagittarius: Hints to Santa

Don’t roll your eyes. There’s some good stuff here and it’s all about the important things we seek in life. Sagittarius’ motto is “I Seek,” and Jupiter is often viewed as the Santa Claus of the zodiac, so why not use them to focus our attention on our goals for the coming month and year.

One thing that I’m pretty sure of is that if you don’t ask the universe for what you want, you won’t get it.

You can do this exercise in several ways. In the first, all you need is paper and something to write with, but we can have a little fun writing down our New Moon wishes, too.

Write down at least 12 things that you would really like to have in your life. Sure, they can be things like peace on Earth, but they can also be things like a new car. The sky’s the limit. This is Sagittarius, after all. Write them down on one piece of paper or on individual pieces. Hang them up with clothespins on a piece of ribbon, write them on a target, or—to make this a seasonal treat—write all your hopes, dreams, and wishes on some plain Christmas balls with a sharpie or paint pen and hang them on your tree or wreath. At the end of the season, pack them away with your other ornaments. Next time you unpack them, you’ll see the things your New Moon arrows hit.Light some purple or indigo candles while you do this. Diffuse some rosemary or clary sage oil for memory and clarity. You can even whip up some Prophetic Dreams pillow spray to use the night before you do your New Moon ritual. (The recipe is here on my Lunar Home and Garden site.)

Brew up some ginger tea or have some ginger snaps. Put on some of your favorite seasonal music and let your hopes and wishes start to come to life in your imagination. And don’t forget to ask for what you want. The universe is limitless and there are so many gifts out there with your name on them. Claim them!
