What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word “sage?” A Thanksgiving spice? A wise elder? Essential oil? Smudging? A guru? Sagittarius is associated with all of them.
Today’s tool is to connect with some of the things associated with today’s Moon sign, Sagittarius. I chose sage because the word has so many meanings ~ reaching far and wide, just like Sagittarius.
Sage, the plant
I love smudging my space with white sage. I even have a very special hawk feather that I found to waft the smoke from the smudge around me. I like knowing that it clears my space…and my head. If you haven’t done this before, I encourage you to give it a try. The aroma is strong and stays in the room several hours after the smoke is gone. I like that, too, because it brings my attention back around to why I decided to smudge the area in the first place. Like many tools for daily intentions, it’s very centering.
White sage is very different from garden sage. Garden sage is for food only, not for smudging. Garden sage, the kind used in cooking, always reminds me of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving occurs during the Sun’s transit of Sagittarius, by the way. If you have some in your pantry, take a smidgen of it and enjoy the aroma or add a dash of it to your recipe if you’re cooking today.
There are different kinds of sage essential oil, just as there are different species of garden sage. I’m not an expert on aromatherapy, but I do enjoy using the oils. Clary sage is one that’s good for relaxation, reducing stress, and relieving hormonal imbalances. It’s specifically associated with the Moon, not Sagittarius, but I’m pulling it out today, anyway. Here’s lots of great info on Clary sage from Susan Weed.
Sages and Gurus
Sagittarius is associated with the wisdom we gain over a long period of time. Sages aren’t always gurus and gurus aren’t always sages. Let Sagittarius’ arrow lead you to the right sage today. Read something written by someone you admire ~ philosopher, clergy, religious leader of an eastern belief system, or anyone you would take advice from. It doesn’t have to be a book or even a chapter. Just a short passage. Engage your intuition by pulling a book off the shelf and opening it to a random page. It could be exactly the inspirational message you need.
Almost everyone has an elder, unless you’re 104 years old, who can teach you something. When I first moved to this small town from New York City, I asked someone for advice on small town living. She said, “If you want to know something about anyone or anything, ask an old man. They know everything.” She also told me never to say anything bad about anyone because they’re all related. Small town living. She was a small town sage who gave me a real education in about a half of a minute. If you have the opportunity, ask an elder about something today.
Crescent Phase
The Moon changes from the New Phase to Crescent today at 3:50pm ET. That’s 12:50pm on the West Coast, and morning for those west of west. It’s time to trust your instincts. While I trust mine 100%, some of you may lean toward the more practical side, relying on facts and empirical data. There could a struggle to trust. Our instincts and intuition are our inner voice. Listen.
You can start with the New Moon work book at any time during the lunation. Order your copy of Manifest Your New Moon Dreams and join me on this journey.
