New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Pisces

With the New Moon in Pisces, we reach the last lunation cycle of the lunar year. As I write this, we are in the Balsamic Phase. It’s the time of slowing down and resting. A time for dreaming and relishing the wonder of it all, the whirl of the mystery.

This is the last New Moon of the year, the close of winter and the wakening of the dream. In only a short time, we’ll enter a new world and the cycle will begin again ~ Spring, when Pisces, the ancient one, is reborn as Aries, the child. ~ Pisces New Moon Dreams

Each of us has a few lunation cycles that are important to us ~ the ones that occur in our natal Sun, Moon, and Ascendant signs. Others may pop up, but those three are important for each of us. But the Pisces New Moon ~ that’s one I consider to be an important New Moon for everyone.

Pisces is the dreamtime and if New Moons had names, Pisces’ would certainly be The Dreamer’s Moon. Whether we’re tucked into our beds or staring out a window lost in a fantasy, the dreams delivered by Pisces are the ones that can bring a bit of magic into our lives.

That’s one of the reasons this lunation is so important.

All New Moons start with a dream. When the dream is discovered, we set our intentions on how to make that dream come true. It doesn’t matter how big the dream is, or how small. We have 29 days to work toward making that dream come true.

Another reason that this lunation is so important is that it gives us 29 days to review where we’ve come from and to dream about the coming lunar year. So, the Pisces New Moon asks us two questions ~ 1) what do you want to accomplish in the next 29 days and 2) what’s your dream for the coming 12 months? That dream for the coming year can be reborn with the Aries New Moon.

The Pisces New Moon Dreams Workbook is a super resource to help you identify and stay on track with your dreams and intentions for this lunation. Daily intentions really do help. (Learn more.)

But then there’s even more for this year’s Pisces Lunation ~ it’s also a Solar Eclipse.

Solar Eclipses don’t affect everyone. They have to make some important contacts in your natal chart. If there’s drama, but no contacts to your planets or important points in your chart, it’s probably just drama and will fade away.

Eclipse effects surpass drama and note important turning points in our lives. While drama may be over in a day or a week, eclipse effects can last up to a year, maybe more. Things happen externally that trigger major change.

This New Moon and the eclipse are at 8° of Pisces. If you have planets near that degree, opposite to or square it (Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius), you are much more likely to feel this eclipse.

What can we expect from a Pisces Solar Eclipse? Rose Lineman in her Eclipse Interpretation Manual says that it is “gentle and subdued,” “haphazard or aimless,” and “psychic or spiritual.” I would add confused, ephemeral, and enchanted to her descriptions and maybe even “unreal” owing to Neptune’s conjunction to the eclipse. There is also the possibility that the curtain is lifted on an issue that causes a deep examination of spiritual beliefs. As always, the house is of major importance.

Most of us won’t be affected and shouldn’t be concerned. If you are concerned, get a consultation with your favorite astrologer to make some practical plans.
