If we don’t get angry with those that deserve it, we’ll express it to those who don’t. ~ Dennis Prager
New Moon in Aries ~ Spirit!
“Spirit” is one of those words that has several meanings and is sometimes used interchangeably with “Soul.” This can be a bit confusing when we start getting into deep philosophical discussions. The type of spirit I’m referring to is vitality, vivacity, vigor, zeal, ardor. It’s the source of our inspiration, the little spark that ignites into a full-blown passion. Somewhere deep within each of us is a fire that lights our way~ an eternal flame that refuses to die out, even during the flickering, questioning trials known as the “dark nights of the soul.” Something remains. That something is your Spirit, your essence.
The New Moon in Aries is not a time to discover your spirit. It’s already there and has always been with you. Rather, it’s a time of reaffirming your spirit, a time to fan the flames. During these dark nights of the New Moon, when we are endowed with fire of fire, we don’t really have to do anything except feel the spark. Creativity will already be there, lurking in the darkness. Do you recognize this old friend?
It doesn’t require activity ~ busyness ~ but there may be a call to action. Sit with it if it appears, nurture the flame, feel the warmth and comfort that it generates.
I read somewhere many years ago that when times are the toughest, we will return to what we truly believe, to that which gives the greatest comfort and inspiration. That’s our spirit, the distilled essence of our most basic nature.
I ran and ran and ran every day, and I acquired this sense of determination, this sense of spirit that I would never, never give up, no matter what else happened. ~ Wilma Rudolph, Olympic gold medal
New Moon Ritual
At some point today, light a flame. It doesn’t have to be big ~ a simple votive or tealight candle will do. Pick any color you like. You know what the color means to you. Name the flame ~ the one thing that you can identify as your internal inspiration and that will sustain you even when times are at their worst. That is your source. That is your inner flame.
