Moon in Scorpio

Scorpio, The Scorpion, is a water sign—emotional, powerful, secretive, intense, and transformative. It is the only sign with three symbols: the scorpion, the eagle, and the phoenix—the mythical bird consumed by the Sun and which rose from the ashes.

It is Scorpio’s task to transform herself from the lower representation of the scorpion (which carries the death sting) to the eagle (the clearsighted symbol of power) to the phoenix (the resurrected life after death by fire).

Scorpio’s power is in her perceptive intuition, resourcefulness, and ability to cut to the quick, exposing and eventually refining our baser qualities.

Ruled by Pluto, Scorpio is, indeed, connected to the underworld: the shadowy, feared, and murky depths of ourselves. Thus, Scorpio is assigned the rulership of reproductive sex, revenge, the occult, death, and absolute power. Scorpio knows intimately the hidden, misunderstood, feared, and powerful aspects of our lives. She then sets out to judge them. With her perceptive powers of transformation, she can change  them into something refined, pure, omnipotent, and divine.

As Lord of the Underworld, Pluto was also called Dis meaning “rich,” a reference to the gems and gold that are buried deep within the earth. We mine for gold in the dark, shadowy caverns of our psyches, looking for that one redeeming nugget that we can carry out of the darkness and into the light—our power jewel, the diamond of our soul. This is alchemy! Where you find Scorpio in your chart is where you must find and own this jewel, or sacrifice yourself to someone or something else.

How would you like to passionately transform yourself so as to have a real impact on your world? We’re not talking about how to make it a nicer, prettier place. We’re talking about a much more primal, instinctual, forceful, life or death way. What moves the inner core of you, waking the volcano within? What gem are you digging for that has the capacity to empower you in a way that will change your life forever? Where might you come closest to annihilating yourself because not to do so would assure your elimination?

If you can recognize it, name it. When you name it, you own it. When you own it, it is yours to do with as you please.

  1. Thank you for the information, I was born with my moon in Scorpio and I’m a very secretive person. I feel things very deeply but no one knows my true depths. I’m always seeking answers to the world beyond.

  2. I’m glad you liked the info, Chantal. Scorpios are very sensitive people and it can take a while to get to know them intimately. I believe the secret for Scorpios is knowing when to trust and then taking a bit of a risk.

  3. cj: thanks so much for this insightful and instructive article.

I enjoy your work and your site very much!

    1. Thanks, Ellen. Sometimes it takes quite a lot of effort to find our jewel, but it’s more than worth the dig.
