Cycle 1 ~ Beginnings, Individuality, Leadership

Before reading about this cycle, take a minute to answer these 9 questions to see how strongly you identify with the number 1:

  1. Do you always seek out a leadership position?
  2. Do you seek adventure and the new?
  3. Do you voice your opinion even if it differs from the group’s?
  4. Do you make your own rules?
  5. Is it easy for you to release the past?
  6. Do you find it difficult to share?
  7. Are you impatient with “down time?”
  8. Do you find it difficult to subordinate yourself to authority?
  9. Will you “beat a dead horse?”

YES ~ If you answer yes to most of these questions, you strongly identify with the qualities of One. The Cycle of One will probably be very exciting for you.

NO ~ If adventure and leadership are a bit unnerving, this year may be more difficult for you.

Either way, the Cycle of One can provide you with opportunities to develop the positive characteristics of One.

This year will bring a focus on your perceptions of and ability to work with:

Beginnings ~ Individuality ~ Leadership

Is something stirring inside you? Do you feel the need to start anew? When you found things falling away from you last year, did you feel that something valuable was due to replace them?

This is an important year because it is the first in the Nine-Year Cycle of Life. You may find yourself in a quest for a new adventure through your career, lifestyle, your appearance, relationships, health, creativity, or any number of things. If you’re still involved with the same job, activities, or relationships that you’ve had the last few years, then you will probably seek a way to change them, transform them in some way that’s refreshing for you. You may be perfectly happy with the foundation of your life, but still there’s a yearning for more—a new adventure of the heart.

This is the year to find those new opportunities. And even if last year left you feeling numb, bewildered, and lost, this year will bring you many interesting opportunities, veering off in diverse directions. All you have to do is allow yourself to be open to the idea of change.

This year gives you the gift of personal power that you can use to its maximum. Somewhere deep inside yourself, you will find the strength and the desire to use this power to its full potential. You know that the compass points toward tomorrow. The future awaits you and you are energized for change and new experiences. Some of these new experiences will be fulfilled in several years; others will fall by the wayside. Have confidence in your sense of independence and creativity, and try to let go of worn out relationships that you cling to from the past. If you are willing to take some risks, you will find some rewards.

When considering the new adventures and opportunities that lie before you, call upon your courage, determination, and willpower to pull you through. Beginning a new project or relationship can be difficult or intimidating, but faith and willpower can get you through the harder times. The positive traits of #1 will help you succeed and confidently walk the rocky path to your unique goals.

How you respond to the influence of the Cycle of One will depend, of course, on your basic nature. If you are already the adventurous type, in tune with these qualities, you may have to put some effort into keeping your ego and self-promotion instincts in line. Under this influence, you could feel so much personal power that you bowl over anyone or anything you encounter. If you are timid or overly modest, you may need to put extra effort into promoting yourself and your ideas. Take those first, unsteady steps.

#1cardEssentially, the Cycle of One is the “Me” cycle. You could rediscover sides of yourself you may have neglected. Nurture the discoveries you make and act on them confidently, in your own unique way. You are laying the groundwork for a Nine-Year Cycle. Make loving and, possibly, bold choices. Be aware of the possibility that this “Me” year will bring attention to issues of self:

  • self-centeredness
  • self-assuredness
  • selfish behavior
  • self-esteem
  • self-preservation

Check in regularly to see that your “Me” attitude is not a destructive one, but rather a way to bring knowledge and personal growth into your life.

The Cycle of One is a very exciting year in the Nine-Year Cycle of Life. You are able to build upon the changes you either considered making or made last year, much like a farmer turning over the soil. During the past nine years, many things probably worked out the way you hoped, and others turned out not so good, or maybe even miserably. We call this “fortune,” or luck. The way things turned out gave you the impression that you encountered either good luck or bad. However, it is much more likely that where you stand today is based on your response to the issues that arose and how you actually dealt with them—both positively and negatively, spiritually and physically—and not so much on luck, at all.

In Cycle One, you are placed in the enviable position of laying out your plans with a fresh Nine-Year Cycle ahead of you. The time is right. This is your season. If you make proper use of your personal gifts and the positive qualities of One, you will find yourself living nearer the good life you envision. Unforeseen circumstances always arise to test you. Sorrow, difficult relationships, and disillusion are part of our lives. But in those times especially, how you respond will determine your progress and your “luck.”
