Symbols of Aquarius

One of the things I love about studying the signs is the myriad ways they reveal themselves to us ~ not just in our behavior and personality traits, but in all the things we see around us every day. Some symbols are obvious while others are lesser known, archaic, and seemingly odd or out of place. Get to know a sign well, though, and it all starts to come together.

I thought I’d put a few of my favorite symbols together into a reference sheet ~ a symbolon of sorts. There’s a little of this, a little of that, but only a few of the many things that fall under the rulership of Aquarius and Uranus. Here’s a snapshot of the page. If you click on the image, the Aquarius “symbolon” will open a pdf. Naturally, all the symbols of Aquarius couldn’t be included. The ones I chose serve as an overview and a cross-reference between several metaphysical arts. They will be very helpful if you’re just starting to study astrology, or if you also study tarot or numerology. Numerology and tarot associations vary widely, but the ones on the symbolon work well for me.

I think of these symbols as representing a knick-knack zodiac because they’re everywhere. If Aquarius represents electricity, can you look at a wall outlet without knowing that right there is a plug-in to Aquarius? When you read that a bird has a wing span of 10 feet, you’ll think, “Wow, that’s a big bird.” That’s Aquarius ~ all large birds. Even jargon can represent a sign. “Out of whack” means not normal, not functioning properly, and is reminiscent of Uranus’ crazy orbit. “That’s crazy!” is definitely a symbol of Aquarius’ unusual outlook. Ever found yourself thinking “how odd” about something you’ve just witnessed or heard. Yep, Aquarius.

Ahhhh, my hero!

I can’t look at Einstein anymore without thinking of Aquarius. Love that hair! For real. He wasn’t an Aquarian, he was a Pisces. He did have Uranus in the 3rd House, however, opposing Jupiter in Aquarius with both squaring Pluto in the 11th. That’s a nice little Aquarian/Uranian T-Square. He had to work it out, you know? If you click his picture, you can see his chart on astrodatabank.

And speaking of hair ~ did you know that Aquarians, and quite possibly Aquarius rising even more so, have some very odd hair issues? There’s usually an offbeat hairline or some major cowlicks going on. Nothing is ever 100%, so there are plenty of Aquarians with absolutely normal hair. But if you see someone with something strange going on with their hair, and it’s completely natural, you’ve probably found yourself an Aquarian of some sort.

Before you start thinking I’m nuts, I don’t think of a sign or planet every time I look at something ~ or someone. I’m a little more mindful of a sign’s symbols during the Sun’s transit of that sign, though, simply because I love symbolism of all sorts. Dig out your rulership books and browse the lists for Aquarius, Uranus, and the 11th house. Stunning! If you don’t have a rulership book, get one. You’ll never regret it.

  1. Thanks, Sandra! It was fun to put together, and I got to pretend I was artistic. 🙂

  2. Lol at the hair … so true … I’m an Aqua sun/Venus trine Uranus and have always had crazy hair … though the worst has been when transit Uranus conjoined my sun, then my chart ruler, then my Dsc. During those transits I had completely crazy and unmanageable hair!

    1. What do you think it is, Nikki? Being in opposition to Leo, the sign that’s supposed to have great hair? I’m Aquarius rising, and you’d think I was raised by a herd of cattle from all the crazy cowlicks I have. It takes a lot of effort to keep them under control. When Uranus entered my first house, my hair got curly. Truly bizarre, but then what else is new with our old friend Uranus?

      1. It’s certainly frustrating to my Virgo rising but the rest of me can live with it. I actually have figured out how to “work with” my crazy hair, but it does take an effort, like you say! I think Aquarius/Uranus wants to be different and not subject to control. Rebellious hair, truly!

    1. Great! Best wishes to you, Shell, since you’re officially the birthday girl all month. Here’s to an absolutely stunning year for you.

    1. Thanks for the link, Pat. Your Einstein article was great fun, and I loved the quotes. I’ve had the biggest crush on him for decades.

  3. This is just what I needed for my blog today. I’ve posted a link to this at my blog today to go with an Aquarian mandala drawing I made. Thanks a bunch!

    1. Great! Thanks, Layla. It’s a very cool mandala. I love your unassembled snowman quote. What a fun blog you have!

  4. It’s a first house thing, too. Having Aquarius there makes for some fun hair days. 🙂

  5. I totally agree with all this on Aquarius rising, my friend has so many cow lick the hair dresser nearly pulls her hair out and she cannot get a good cut
